Wirral Labour vote to unfairly exclude only 1 of 66 councillors from Council policy decisions

Wirral Labour leader, Cllr Janette Williamson said she is "pleased" while deputy Labour leader, Cllr Paul Stuart smirked. Disgraced former Wirral Labour leader, Cllr Steve Foulkes called for a by-election, against the democratic wishes of people in Bromborough ward.

His by-election call was echoed by Cllr Julie McManus, who is Chair of Housing policy committee. Julie, who is white and not Jewish, claimed she "is not a racist".

All 25 Wirral Labour councillors voted to exclude me (4 were absent)

Cuts to Council services are a political choice

Cuts to Council services are a political choice

Evidence from Wirral Council's published accounts shows:

There is no budgetary justification for cuts to front line services nor compulsory redundancies.

Cuts to well-used local services are a political choice not a necessity.

Council income and spending on non-statutory services has increased every year since 2017.

Council net spending on Adult Care and Children’s Services is no higher than 2010.

Wirral Council is not close to bankruptcy and has £114m of earmarked reserves.

£26.2m of these reserves are for Covid 19 and could be used to cancel loans and interference from government.

The Graph of Doom prediction was significantly wrong and misleading.

Pension investments in companies trading in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

As a result of questions from myself and members of the public, Merseyside Pension Committee decided to consider a full report at its next meeting (Feb 2022) regarding investments in companies trading in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The evidence is very strong. There has been:

Questions, letters, motions and protests by members of Merseyside Pension Fund and the wider public

Two consecutive and critical engagement reports by Local Authority Pension Fund Forum

Advice and reports from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Government advice on high risk of trade with Occupied Palestinian Territories*

Extensive engagement by the United Nations resulting in a list of 112 companies linked to illegal settlements

Adverse findings against two Britain-based companies by the Department for International Trade and OECD

Realising around £2.7m of investment in 7 companies is of a scale and nature unlikely to cause significant financial detriment to Merseyside Pension Fund members

Rarely a better way to promote policies for the many, than to be a candidate

The Party said that they are expelling me for signing a petition and speaking at a meeting, like years ago. Three years ago, I spoke at a meeting that was organised by Labour Against the Witchhunt, and I’m glad I did that. The National Executive Committee only banned Labour Against the Witchhunt four months ago. But they’re applying this retrospective justice. It’s a complete breach of natural justice, of all sensible laws in all sensible countries. Nobody can understand the retrospective nature of that.

Labour Party expels Cllr Jo Bird for speaking at a meeting 3 years ago

I'm now free from the Labour Party's hostile environment, where Jewish people like me are 31 times more likely to be investigated for talking about the racism we face.

I'm free from fear of disciplinary action for exercising my human rights to freedom of expression and freedom of association - to speak and meet with other people.

Labour Party harassment of a Jewish councillor

Labour Party harassment of a Jewish councillor

The Labour Party sent me yet another bullying letter on 24 August - the fourth disciplinary action against me by head office in two and a half years.

The Labour Party wrote that I may not remain a member because, more than a year ago, I gave a great speech, spoke at a meeting and signed a letter arranged by Labour Against the Witchhunt, an organisation they banned in July 2021. My legal response was submitted today, Rosh Hashonah.

It's time to tell the story of continuing hostility by the Labour Party towards me. I am a twice-elected Labour councillor who happens to be Jewish. My complaints of harassment and victimisation have been ignored by the Labour Party. Such intimidation in public life is not OK.

IPSO Standards Investigation into the JC

BY ITS REFUSAL TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE JEWISH CHRONICLE, IPSO HAS PROVED IT IS A SHAM

Statement by victims of libel by the Jewish Chronicle and members of the public whose complaints against the paper were upheld by IPSO.

In August we wrote to Lord Faulks, the chair of IPSO, pointing to the collapse of journalistic standards at the Jewish Chronicle and urging him to initiate a formal Standards Investigation into what had gone wrong. The Editors’ Code of Conduct had been breached 33 times in three years and the paper admitted libel on four occasions in the same period.

Peace for Palestine

The current state of Israel does not allow the human right of return for Palestinian refugees, simply to return home. Nor their children, like my friend Fadl. State violence, oppression and racist laws continue at Israel’s borders and continue between the river and the sea. So what do we mean when we say ‘Palestine shall be free’? We mean free from oppression, free from apartheid, free from occupation and war.

We reclaim these streets every time we walk on them

We're here in memory of all the women who've been raped or murdered. All our sisters. We won't let it be forgotten…

…We will not let them be forgotten. We protest. We speak up.

We Reclaim These Streets every time we walk on them.

We demand that the people in power protect our right to protest, defend our safety and protect our human rights.

Imagining if people come before profit

This cruel Conservative government promised local authorities will be fully funded to do "whatever it takes" to deal with Covid. But Wirral Council has little choice but take a £10.9 million [£9m confirmed later] loan from the government just so that it can provide vital support for our residents, in our year of need.
